ELASTOMER

A material which, at room temperature,
can be stretched under low stress to at
least twice its original length and ,
upon immediate release of the stress,
will return with force to its approximate
original length.

INJECTION MOLDING

Injection molding is a process in which
plastic is melted or plasticated, and injected
into a mold. With thermoplastics the mold is
kept at a temperature below the solidifying
point of the plastic, causing the injected
polymer to freeze, thus forming the article.
After cooling, the mold is opened and the
item is removed.

PLASTIC

(1) One of many high-polymeric substances,
including both natural and synthetic products,
excluding the rubbers. At some stage in its
manufacture, every plastic is capable of flowing,
under heat and pressure if necessary, into the
desired final shape. (2) Made of plastic;
capable of flow under pressure or tensile stress .

THERMOPLASTICS

Resins or plastics compounds which in their
final state as finished articles, are capable of
being repeatedly softened by an increase of
temperature and hardened by a decreased
of temperature.

THERMOSET

Resins or plastics which, in their final state
as final state as finished articles are
substantially infusible and insoluble.
Thermosetting resins are often liquids at
some stage in their manufacture or processing,
and are cured by heat, catalysis, or other
chemical means, After being fully cured,
thermosets cannot be resoftened by heating.
